Jay and I can test out the sporty, new red one next weekend when we go to Lynne and Joel's in WA state.
The weird thing is I no longer lust for an expensive camera. I blame this on the fact I broke the last one and didn't replace it for about five months. It's just that my ancient Nexus One smartphone worked well enough. I mean with evolving software, a GPS stamp, and always being connected to the Internet, I found my phone more useful than a dedicated camera. I have continued to take photos during these months and have barely missed having my bulky Olympus SP-570UZ.
I did realize that come the fall, we will be journeying again, and I guessed that something that can zoom a bit is a requirement. After all, Sri Lanka, Burma, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietman, and Laos are worth more than a 5-megapixel, three-year-old cell phone!
I had been planning to move to a new Nikon P501 but today on a lark, I noticed a sale in a London Drug brochure. An Olympus SP-10 was marked down to $129. This lead me to the Best Buy site to research a bit. I saw that the SP-14 cost just $30 more. It surpasses most of the specs of it's dead, larger sibling. Ah, okay. Why not? I knew the software would be familiar as I've been playing with Olympus digital imaging products for more than a decade. Oh, and it came in red!
Sold.
