Summer will come soon, I hope. I immediately noticed these red sneakers on a department store shelf as I walked past. I bought them expressly because they reminded me of the beginning of summers a good forty years ago. I always got a new pair which would get pretty grungy with Granite State dirt by Labor Day weekend. That was before Nikes, New Balance, or even the concept of 'running shoes' in general.
I wondered as I checked out if I looked, to the sales girl, like an old customer who probably watched re-runs of the Lawrence Welk Show on PBS. (Oh, the answer is I do not.)
