I want you to consider the reliability of electronic gadgets nowadays. I most probably first heard about ENIAC in high school. Just today though, I came across its picture on Pinterest which prompted me to read what Wikipedia had to say. There were lots of stats, but one I will carry away was about its length of continuous operation. Using 17,468 vacuum tubes, the US Army's computer averaged around 2 days before one burnt out. There was one stretch in 1954 where it ran close to five days without failure!
Yeah, now doesn't that make you feel better about the computer (or phone) on which you're reading this entry? You might curse having to reboot it once in a blue moon, but think just how reliable it really is.
