I haven't seen a stardard incandescent bulb in this house for years. In fact, I changed over the vanity lighting fixture in the bathroom just so I could use compact-florescents. Over the years some of those have been better than others. Many have been instant on, but the newer ones for the bathroom take at least 45 seconds to attain their full brightness. I've found that is actually a benefit when switching on the lights in the morning; as it gives a few seconds for sleepy eyes to adjust.
Anyhow, I wanted to see just how far LED lighting has come. This Philips bulb is supposed to be equivalent to a normal 60 watt bulb and it seems to live up to the promise. It takes about half the number the watts of an equivalent CF. I really don't expect to see any decrease in our bi-monthly bill for electricity though. I will be waiting to see if it lasts the stated 22.8 years. Remind me in 2034 to check on it.
