The KAYAK website seems to provide good leads on cheap flights, and often points me directly at the website source. I also have become fond of its Android app on my tablet as it comes back with results at lightening speed. It was due to that version, I explored the my trips option today. I don't recall the name of the site which I tried earlier that purported to provide the same service but the concept is simple. One just forwards all travel confirmation emails to the KAYAK email address and the site extracts the relevant data to create a custom travel listing with calendar. It's smart. It would be a God-send for frequent business travelers. Today, it accepted my data from an Expedia email as well as from a private hotel reservation system.
Knowing what NOT to include is the very definition of intelligence here. I am not sure what the computer term is for this process, but I see it becoming more and more important in the future. When I first joined Linkedin, I was amazed it was able to make heads or tails out of my rather bizarrely-formatted resume. It was pretty spot on. Computer systems have to be quite advanced to know what data to extract from a mass of it. I think this bodes well for the future of the personal web.
