My aging Nexus One phone is the perfect equivalent of a modern-day Swiss Army knife for the online world. Over the years, I have occasionally felt as though the purchase of a device has been a type of training fee for life. In the early 1980's, a video-tape machine was my initial exposure to on-demand home viewing and taught me a bit about the future of television. Similarly, my current mobile phone has acted like training wheels for how we'll use the Internet in the future.
Being location aware, always accessible, and in touch with the world as well as friends are some of the advantages of carrying around a smartphone. I hardly ever make phone calls! Include a built-in GPS, and entirely new possibilities come into focus. NFC will be part of my next device, I'm sure. Simply having a camera in one's pocket most every minute of the day can really change how we interact with the world.
We picked up some Sri Lankan groceries in on Fraser Street in Vancouver today.
I love my phone but will continually look forward to the improvements not only in the products but in the way they will alter the actual course of our lives.
