I wonder how many life-changing conversations take place via Facebook nowadays? It seems so pervasive. I had a long volley of private Facebook messages with my sister this afternoon. The medium of most people is clearly no longer the telephone or email. In fact, regular email seems only used in official channels. When there's a particular person I want to contact, especially if they're on a different schedule or in a different place, it's most always via Facebook. The good news of that realization is that I will never have to update an email address again!
I still sort of feel sorry for the few friends who aren't on Facebook. The situation reminds me of a family in town that chose not to have a television back in the 1960's and 1970's. We may have wasted hours of our lives we'll never get back. And yes, the kids in that family have all survived, but at what cost? Those parents and children ended up missing out on some of the most defining moments of the era. The same must be said for those who make a decision not to participate in Facebook nowadays. Different era, yet the effect is the same!
Am I the only person who knows a half dozen friends who avoid being involved in Facebook? To me, it seems like the entire planet is on-board, except for a few of my very own curmudgeons.
