Today, we checked out of the Hotel Granada after three nights. We got a taxi and went over to the other side of the city to catch a 9:00 am Tica bus. We had plenty of time to eat a small breakfast at a shop nearby.
As the buses weren't moving yesterday, there was a crowd waiting for our bus. We purchased tickets on Thursday, so were assured of our seats. It was a long drive and I surely saw an eyeful. The only real change of pace was at the border between Honduras and Nicaragua. We stayed on the bus when leaving Honduras but had to get out and have our bags checked while entering the new country. We left that area about 2:00.
We pulled into town here at about ten past five. In the hour of light, we decided against staying at the Tica Bus Hotel and opted to go to a tax driver and ask for a cheap hotel. He brought us to Villa Angelo not many blocks from the station actually. We thought it was good and checked in. Almost immediately we walked up two blocks and over two more to a 3-story shopping plaza near the Intercontinental Hotel. It has a food court on the top floor near a cinema.
By what we could see in and hour of light, Managua is nice. It seems modern and quite pretty. Tomorrow we'll hang around to confirm that opinion.
