The pants I wore to work today were new, but also very old.
There's a thrift store down Columbia street. When I'm out for a walk, it's a perfect destination as the trip there and back takes about twenty minutes. I often go inside the Salavation Army to look around. On one recent occasion, I walked past racks of trousers but noticed a pair in my size which still had all the tags attached. The pants had never been worn, even once. This was the tag from a back-pocket button.
Perma-Prest was a registered trademark. A little Net research indicated that Sears, Robuck, and Co. applied for the trademark on July 28, 1966. It was granted on June 13, 1967. (Interestingly it expired as of March 15, 2008.) I could tell by the font used on the back of the card that it was quite old. A puzzling thing was the SS logo. Of course, growing up in the United States made Sears seem familiar, but I didn't know anything about the first S. I am so thankful for resources like Wikipedia. Soon after typing those two words into the search box I discovered the history of Simpsons - Sears.
So although these slacks had never been worn they are probably over 35-years old. Since bringing them home, I've washed them a few times. They still don't need to be ironed so those creases really do seem to be permanently pressed!
