My windshield wipers have been slightly malfunctioning for years. I have just been too damned lazy to actually get to fixing them. During the snow storm a few weeks back, they completely stopped functioning. I was half way home on slippery roads with my head stuck out the window. I had to pilot the old Ford Ranger back to the parking lot at BCIT. I took out my pocket knife pulled off the top cover of the indicator switch and proceeded to yank out the guts. With a load of finesse, I was able to get it working enough to cope .
Clearly with rain in the forecast from today until Christmas, this is not an option in Vancouver.
I just went to the local junk yard to pick up a replacement unit. It cost me $75. Yikes, just for a switch? I suppose that's okay as it's at least half as much as a new one would cost. The one-piece unit does provide: directional signals, high/low headlight beams, multi-speed windshield wipers, windshield washer switch, and emergency-flasher switch.
After typing all that, I'm beginning to think I got quite a bargain!
