We never collected a large amount of Christmas decorations, living as we were in the Middle East during the 80's and much of the 90's. It just wasn't our tradition to put up a tree, ever. In the building where we now live, freshly-cut trees are not allowed due to the fire hazard and mess they'd make in the elevators.
There is a box with some decorations in the hall closet. Last year, that box wasn't moved at all as we installed new carpeting during the second week of December. Then, we knew we'd be leaving on Christmas Eve for eight nights in New York City.

Considering the ornaments didn't see the light of day last year, one might guess that I'd be keen to take 'em out now. Yet, I think it puts me more in the mood if the house only looks different for a few weeks. I find if the Christmas things are up for too long, then they lose their impact. Next weekend is our annual Christmas parade in downtown New Westminster, BC. I suppose as our window can be seen from Columbia Street, I should think about putting up the lights before December 4th.
