Google News opens in one of my tabs when I open a browser on my computers. This has been the case for many years. A great deal of my news comes via the Internet although we still get a daily newspaper, and I find local TV news indispensable. It's not that I don't trust a single source of news to let me know what's happening. Even on the Internet, I just have interests that are too broad and varied for a single news organization.
It'd be interesting to know how many users modify the Google News page. Of course after one has logged on, one can choose an edition based on a geographic location. Of course, layout can be changed to one's preference too. A huge quantity of custom sections can be added by just selecting from what's available.
The real power of Google News always has been the ability for a reader to create a custom section. Doing so is as easy as typing in the necessary search terms. For example, I wanted to add a section to keep up with Sri Lankan news. Yet, without any tweaking, there are times it would just be filled with cricket results. So I had to add this: Sri Lanka -batsman -batsmen -wickets -sport -cricket -innings -tournament -bowl -bowled -bat -"Asia Cup". That pretty much gives me only stories I'm interested in.
I have at least five or six personally customized sections on my page at once. As my interests wax or wane, these news sections change as well.
