It's about 48 miles long although not very deep or wide. This being the last day in Gudalajara, we knew that if we were to visit the freshwater lake, it'd have to be today. We got up at our normal time, meaning that we didn't finish the breakfast buffet until a bit after 9:30. From the little info kiosks in Guadalajara parks, we found we'd have to get a bus at the old bus station. We were in that general area yesterday, so we got on a local bus rather than walking for a half hour to that station. There are buses from here to the town of Chapala which run nearly every twenty minutes.
The trip was just about an hour. So by noon we walked through town to the lakeside. I had read a little about this lake before coming here. There are supposedly between 20,000 and 30,000 US and Canadian winter residents who annual migrate here. Of course, the majority are retirees. In addition, Lake Chapala is somewhat famous for the fact that during previous decades it had shrunk dramatically. Now however, the water levels are as high as ever.
The town of Chapala was nice enough. I keep seeing places where I'd like us to spend five or six months a year. The weather here is universally fantastic. I am not really looking forward to our bus departure tomorrow morning.
