Remembering the little stuff is important. I like digital cameras simply for their ability to record life. Above is just a shot I took while driving to class this afternoon. It is not far from the New Westminster High School. As soon as I went through that intersection, I was in Burnaby.
Why did I bother taking the picture? Well, it was not just to flout the new British Columbia traffic rules about using gizmos while driving. I just find that many people only take photos of their vacation or at special events. There's certainly nothing wrong with that, but I want every day stuff too. For example, this week, I got a note from a Kuwaiti saying how many people appreciate my old scans from the early 1980's on Flickr.
There was nothing especially impressive about any of those pictures of pre-war Kuwait. It's just history that has added value. If I want to someday remember my time teaching at BCIT, at least I'll have a way to see how I got there each day. Will I someday laugh at the old-fashioned cars we used to drive in 2009. Or what about the fact they all used to run on gas?
