Workmanship

At the risk of sounding like a crotchety old fart, I often find replacement products inferior to ones made several decades ago. Usually, when I have to replace things in the apartment, I discover that I'm replacing ones that were made in Canada thirty or forty years ago. Who knew that most hardware and building items used to be produced domestically! More than likely, the newer replacement will have more plastic and less metal. Generally, it'll also be lighter and flimsier.

Today, however, Amazon dropped off a single package with an outdoor electrical outlet cover. (My recent orders are frequently split and arrive on different days.) The item was reasonably priced, so I assumed it was going to follow the characteristics mentioned in the paragraph above. However, the Hubbel Bell waterproof cover is well-made. It is solid and will last a long time. I found the replacement was better quality than the original and that one must've been attached to my outside wall for the better part of 35 years.
