Day 058 of Our Winter: When we were gone, bunches of bananas from the yard ripened. In fact more than we will probalby be able to eat. Then, Jay found another bunch to cut. They are near the well now. Even though they look very green, some birds and squirrels had already started to eat one or two. If one leaves them too long, the wildlife will get them. These type of small banana take turn yellow in a week or less.
Speaking of food: Nazir came with an enormous meal of rice and curries. Literally there is at least twenty servings in the huge bowl of rice with all the spice, cashews, and raisins. Of course there were enough curries for everyone. Jay and I got the container with the chicken and the sisters got fish. It tasted so nice with the complexity of flavours that Sri Lankan food is famous for. This has always been a spice island and the cuisine reflects that fact beautifully. Nazir's sisters cooked up this gift meal. It is a common gift on the island. It was especially welcomed as we just returned from 15 nights in Dubai. These tastes verified that we had returned to the former Ceylon. Yum!
