Day 021: Today was Sunday and most businesses were closed. We didn't get a chance to find one to discuss a tour of some of Madagascar, the fourth largest island in the world. Instead, we just walked around a bit.
We saw a market area and also lots of groups hovering around their charismatic Christian preachers.
This is an old area of the city and probably one of the poorest places we have ever visited. There are beggars and needy children and not a great deal of future for most of the people we see. Countries like Bangladesh are are substantially better off economically with an atmosphere that demonstrates that most people expect things to improve. I feel a bit more of an outsider here than most other places we've been.
Perhaps the disparity is more obvious because we're staying in the Hotel Colbert. This section of the hotel has recently gone through renovations and it posher than our usual choices.
I'm hoping we can find a tour in order to see some of the stunning geography and wildlife of this country. We are here until December 9th. That's when we fly on Air Mauritius to that island for nearly a one-month stay in an Airbnb.
