We are nearing the end of the third summer driving our electric KONA. Our EV has only been on the roads for seven months out of every twelve. In fact, Kimchi does not carry registration nor insurance when we are away for winters.
The car's first summer of 2019 was fairly normal as we drove over to the Okanagan and took shopping trips down to Bellingham in WA. However, both last summer and this one, we have stayed close to home due to the COVID situation.
The US border closed to non-essential travel in March of 2020 but will not open until November 8, 2021. BC residents were encouraged to avoid travel within the province last summer. Also, extensive COVID-outbreaks this summer, especially in the slow-to-get-vaccinated areas, meant travel really hasn't been an option either.
We have put very, very few kilometers on this car. I hope we can take an extended road trip next summer. It is a joy to drive on the highway with adaptive cruise control that masters even stop and go traffic.
