I just got off the phone from making an appointment next Wednesday to get one.
My Kona contains one of the LG Chem batteries with a manufacturing defect. This has led to a tiny number of fires in my type of EV. It's also a potential problem for 50,000 Chevy Bolts. However, Hyundai has been on top of things for quite a while. We've known about the problem for months and presently I am supposed to be charging to a maximum of 80% capacity. My car was an early production vehicle, manufactured on December 12, 2018. We confirmed its potential battery problem earlier this summer when I went in for the recall notice. Replacement batteries have now started arriving in port.
So, next week, I will get a completely new battery under warranty. My car will be among the first in Canada to receive its free replacement. I'm expecting the installation and testing to take several days while I drive a loaner from the dealership. (Oh crap, I don't look forward to driving a gas-powered vehicle at all!) My birthday is next Friday and most probably the day I can pick up my Kona, so I'm considering this as my birthday present from Korea.
