We really like staying in Mazatlán's historical center. A walk to the main plaza and cathedral takes us around 10 or 15 minutes. The Centro area has a few sections of old, revitalized colonial architecture. Yet, lots of buildings are in need of renovation and stand ready for gentrification.
As well as the scenic nature of the area, we have found the weather here delightful. The days are slowly getting a bit hotter now that the middle of March is nearly upon us. However the day's haven't varied much and always reach a high of between 23°C and 26°C (equivalent to 73°F to 79°F). We have been here just a month but have seen no rain at all.
So, it is a perfect place to be active. During our winters away, we are able to walk much, much more than we would if at home.
We didn't plan ahead, but decided to walk a few kilometers to the beach at Olas Atlas. Walking in the sunshine is good for the spirits as well as one's physical health. This is the original section of sand in front of the historic section of Mazatlán. (Most vacationers stay along the miles of beach to the north of the old city.)
