Jay and I really are real, authentic travellers. We'd never been to the Mayan Riveria before but decided to try to stay for the majority of the winter. So many people are afraid of more than just COVID-19. Irrational fear puts them into a situation of not doing anything new. Travel involves a certain discomfort that we have come to relish. After landing and learning a new place, we feel a tremendous sense of accomplishment. We look and see others, even friends, with zero ability to accurately gauge the threat assessment. To us, they seem stuck in tiny, predictable boxes. Many are sort of wasting their precious existence.
We already know our way around the local neighbourhoods and are happy. We have started to create a new chapter that will be memorable for the rest of our lives. For example, our local Walmart is about a 10-minute walk and has a much better fruit and vegetable section than the one back at home. Our street ends at the beach.
