Day 93 - My Miband says we walked 14.33 kilometers today. My legs feel as though it were 114.33! All those steps are only equal to 1055 calories. Really? This is just another example of how the world is not fair.
We started by just stepping out to the River Walk area by Masjid Jamik. This area changed a lot with street and infrastructure improvements some of which were started when we were here last winter. At first, I was sad to see the enormous old trees cleared, but I have to admit the street transformation has been stunning. Many of the streets were narrowed and turned to one-way. Now there is ample room for pedestrians and landscaping. It's clean, modern, and impressive.
The confluence of the two rivers marks the birthplace of Kuala Lumpur and it is a delight to see this area getting the attention it deserved. I almost felt a weird, personal pride when showing this all to Jay's sisters. This is just a stone's throw the area of colonial British governance. There happened to be some sort of a celebration for the Federal territory today, although I'll have to look up how this fits into Malaysia Independence from Britain in 1957. I know that their National Day is in August. Nevertheless, it was nice to see live music in Dataran Merdeka.

From there, we walked towards Chinatown. Being that it's still the end of the Chinese New Year, those temples continue to be busy. A major Hindu Temple practically across the street had a wedding shoot going on. I love this city for many reasons but its diversity has to rank among the most important.

So far, I haven't mentioned shopping. Well, let me tell ya: that was definitely part of the day. Every stall in the Central Market or Petaling Street seemed to require a thorough investigation by Jay's sisters. The bags seemingly grew heavier with each step. We were so close to the main MYDIN that we gave up an hour or so there too.
Yah. It was time for a needed nap before the Saturday Market of temporary vendors on the street behind our building.

Jay put together some fish curry at our place as a late dinner and we bought dosa and parotta as take-away. Renting two studio apartments in this building is so much better than if we'd gotten a hotel room for Jay's sisters. They'll be here for only 10 nights but we'll stay until the beginning of April and head home from here.
All this walking has left me hobbling around now. Kids, don't save all your travel adventures until your 60s as it takes much more time in the later stages of life.
