Day 110 - This morning the tablet alarm rang at 5:15 AM. By 5:55, I requested a Grab car via the app and Jay was off!
He's not been to Sri Lanka since 2013. And for the last four or so trips, I have accompanied him. In fact, the last time he went to Sri Lanka alone, was before immigrating to Canada in 1996. So much has changed during the last five years for his family! Since our last time there, his family aunt, father, and brother-in-law have died. He's going to visit with his two sisters, who are younger.
I got the Grab payment notification that he'd arrived on the airport in less than 40 minutes. The traffic must be light in the mornings. I periodically watched his flight to Colombo as it progressed across the Indian Ocean. He left a few minutes early but got there a good half-hour early. The flight is supposed to take three and a half hours, but the time zone difference makes up for two and a half of those.
So, I wanted to wait until the evening to give a call. At 9:30 PM here, it was 7:00 there. He said everything was fine and he saw lots of changes on the 20-minute trip from the airport to his house in Minuwangoda. The luggage with gift items made it safely too. Even though up early, he mentioned that they'd skipped naps and the siblings talked all afternoon.
Jay is a true traveller and after a few days, in the middle of next week, he'll take his sisters to Jaffna as they have never been to the far north. I'm sure they'll have a good time on the trip and for the whole stay. He'll return here to Kuala Lumpur on March 15th.
