Now, one of the last remaining areas of downtown has shovels in the dirt. More precisely, at this present time, it has a barge and crane on the river. The old parking pier near the New Westminster Quay is being removed. The area will be replaced with the Pier West development. The 43 and 53 storey towers will displace some views from our apartment but we welcome the additional urban density and facilities.
At the rate at which the base of the old canneries is disappearing, I am confident that quite a bit may happen during the next five months. We'll be in Indonesia and Malaysia for the winter. Yet, I will look forward to seeing what is here (or not here) when we return in April 2019.

I chronicled The Construction of Pier Park through a few hundred photos in a Flickr album. That land is directly to the west. The majority of that work occurred seven or eight years ago. How time seems to fly!
