Really, Flickr?

Flickr is considered one of the very first Web 2.0 websites. At the time, it was a new realization that netizens add value to a site by providing free data which can be monetized. It is now being changed by a new owner.

So, I sadly discovered that all non-paying accounts will be able to keep just 1000 photos. The problem is that all other photos are scheduled for deletion. Really? That puts an enormous chunk of Internet data up for disposal. It's also a very poor business decision as that enormous value of digital images will be voluntarily discarded.



This might be the oldest image which would be deleted from my account. It was taken in 1959 and uploaded in 2015. My very first upload occurred on June 21, 2005.

I just paid a lot of money for an annual PRO account. However, at 59 years old, I do not plan on living forever. So, the year I stop paying their ransom, it all disappears. Sad. And a stupid business decision.
