This patch of lemongrass was started a few years back. It is a staple ingredient in many Asian and South Asian dishes. Jay's lemongrass has managed to live through winters when we leave for warmer places.
This afternoon, he cut back many stalks down to and including the root. He also gave it the equivalent of a plant haircut. Lemongrass can be used fresh or dried for later use.
It'll now have a chance to grow out during the hot weather. It was pretty warm today. Had the atmosphere not been covered in such a thick haze from the wildfire smoke, today would have reached oppressive temperatures.
