Day 13 - Although it seems as though we've been sailing across the Pacific for ever so long, I know Hawaii isn't even in the middle. We have five more days at sea before we take a day to rest in American Samoa. I just did a quick mental exercise to come to a count of 14 elevators on the MS Noordam. They are strategically placed in the forward, mid-ship, and aft sections. Thankfully, each has a changeable carpet insert. Today it read, Friday. During our remaining month on this ship, I will be able to keep the days straight.
I finished up another novel today. It was 'The Ordeal of Gilbert Pinfold' by Evelyn Waugh. I found it in the library's book swap section. This writing is a bit older than I am. I grabbed it because of a mention of a voyage to Ceylon. It describes the semi-autobiographical mental illness of its British writer. It was probably not the best choice for cruise-ship reading materials but I am happy I read it.
I finished a bit of the book while sitting by the mid-ship pool. The temperature was 28C today but the unusual thing is this breeze. Since we left the Hawaiian islands, there's been a 20 to 30-knot side wind. This has resulted in some movement for which the stabilizers cannot compensate. I guess the swells are two or three feet. I enjoyed being rocked slowly to sleep last night but occasionally stumble a bit when walking the length of the ship. Jay and I often walk around the outer part of Deck 3 after meals. On the most lethargic of sea days, my Mi Band reports we walk 5 or 6 kilometers.
We had another Gala Night aboard the MS Noordam this evening.
Charles and Louise from Virginia are our dinnermates on this
section of the cruise. They made coming to dinner memorable.
