This cruise is so different from our most recent one when we explored a new port nearly every day. I had two naps today and spent the rest of the time eating meals and snacks. I do think I am gaining a bit of self-restraint not seen on our initial cruise this summer. Today, I knew I had nothing to accomplish and that felt great, although perhaps not in a Trumpish sense of the word.

Speaking of which, at one point during the afternoon I listened-in on part of a passenger conversation with an Indonesian staff member. It went something like, "We welcome them to the US with open arms, but then they want to change how we live with their own ways and ...." I didn't slow my pace and was soon out of earshot. Later, I felt bad about not confronting her about her ignorance. If she had any awareness of American history she'd not hold such uninformed opinions. I blame the present political crisis in America on its school systems. A democracy requires intelligent participation and it is obvious to me that a great number haven't the slightest idea of the forces at play around them. Ignorance occurs when misinformation can so successfully be used as manipulation.

This afternoon we've been in fog. This may be in anticipation of tomorrow morning's arrival in San Francisco. Yet, I've heard that it might be 28C and sunny in town tomorrow. We should meet up with Daragh as we've planned to meet.
