Sigh. Interest rates continue to suck for savers.
Years ago, during the time of healthy returns, I didn't have much money. Still my relationship with banks has always been on the receiving side. I've never paid for the privilege of using someone else's money. I may have paid a couple hundred dollars for student loans a few decades back but that's it. I avoided a mortgage. I didn't ever pay interest on a car loan. I have not spent a cent of interest on credit card debt. I never borrowed from anybody, even relatives. One doesn't need a lot of money, if one can learn to live within one's means.
