Motorcycles are, of course, extremely popular here in Luxor, Egypt. In a poorer country, they are one of the first mechanized forms of transportation that a family can afford. An area near the National Ferry dock holds hundreds, as people can ride in from surrounding towns and catch the public boat for a commute over to the East Bank.A headline on the Internet read today:
Beijing takes bite out of Big Apple's claim to 'billionaire capital of the world.'One thing that came as a bit of a surprise to me is that all the motorcycles on the road here were made in China. I've seen just several Japanese bikes which were obviously very old ones. In North America, we are certainly aware that most stores are full of products from Chinese manufacturers. In developing countries many larger items and infrastructure projects are now Chinese in origin.
I guess this is why that headline makes sense.
