I am now perfectly able to appreciate the ancient Egyptian god Aten, represented by the sun disk. It provides light, warmth, and growth. Later it was carried by the god Ra. The daily western disappearance into the underworld occurred at sunset as he battled to rise again in the east the following morning. Not so incidentally, there is a large difference between the daily high and low temperatures here; if fact, some of the largest seen anywhere.
I went scouting through my photos to see if I had a sun disk on Flickr. I found one carried on Isis's head in this 2014 photo taken in a tomb in the Valley of the Kings. (The area is only around 10 kilometers from our apartment, but we've not visited this year. We are residents I guess and not so much tourists now.)
I sat in the authentic sun in a chaise lounge upstairs today with my XBass headphones on. I was listening to an 80's play-list. This afternoon it was about 21C. The sun warms completely to the bones. It was very necessary for the enjoyment of my own day.
Now, as I'm typing this entry, the god Ra most probably in his ram-headed form, is heading towards the horizon. An advantage of living in the desert is I'm sure I'm going to see him tomorrow morning.
