Today, we took a bus to visit a Soriana Supermarket that we'd not seen in person. We knew it was near the MacroPlaza in Pitillal and in fact was the very next bus stop. What an cavernous place! Acres! We had thought of buying a few Christmas presents in the next-door Walmart Supercenter, but we ended up buying them right inside the Soriana instead.
Why were we looking for toys? Interesting story.
We read about the Blue Chairs Christmas Toy Campaign in one of the local tourist newspapers. I'll post a clipping to the right. This came from the December 20 to 26 issue of the PV Mirror. We have never had much experience in buying toys. I have got to think that toy companies are raking in a fortune. Silly, poorly designed plastic crap seems to cost way too much. Most of it a kid would never want unless brainwashed by TV and peers. Alas, I digress. That's a topic for another day.
We did think it would be nice to drop off a few toys before Thursday, so this is what today's trip was all about, initially.
It started for this reason but whenever we get into one of these supermarkets we seem to discover all sorts of food to buy. I am eating like a king at a sum that seems only princely. For example, the prawns without heads looked very good this morning. At US $6.40 a pound we almost cannot resist fresh seafood. Everything fresh seems quite a bit cheaper than in Canada and therefore attractive.
Oh, and the 1.5-liter bottles of 70 proof Tequila I had been buying really didn't seem big enough. I noticed this aged brand in a 1.75-litre bottle for 120 Mexican Pesos (US $9.50) and thought that it would be okay. When I checked out at the cashier, it was only 95 Mexican Pesos (less than US $6.50) due to an unadvertised discount. So I guess this proves: What goes around, comes around, eh?
