We've visited places where most of the beach-goers were foreign tourists. The Costa del Sol of Spain and the beaches in Bali spring to mind. One good thing about Puerto Vallarta is that a great deal of the tourism is comprised of out-of-town Mexicans. For example, when I visited the beach this afternoon, it was difficult to find towel space for all the local families spread out with beach umbrellas and all. It is fun trying to piece together, with eyes closed, bits of the conversation with the 100 words of Spanish that I know. I felt a little like these headless fish at the Ley's Supermarket.
