I'd be remiss if I did not enter facts about the fire which occurred in downtown New Westminster today.
Upon waking up, we saw the fire from the balcony. Columbia Street was closed off for most all the day while fire crews extinguished the stubborn blaze. It made me a little sad. It is rather a strange feeling having a building that's 110 years old disappear overnight. Although there are new buildings rising along the downtown New West corridor, having something so old and with such history go up in smoke feels odd. Perhaps it brought forward our own mortality. I feel sorrow for the businesses lost although I never frequented them. Loss is always sad nevertheless.
