For the very first autumn / winter in a very long time, we plan on sticking mainly around Vancouver. I am sure we'll be able to survive. After all, it does stay pretty green around the parts. I've seen people mowing verdant grass here in December! I may, however, miss spending months surrounded by tropical vegetation. As a preschooler, I learned to draw palm trees before trying my hand at oaks or maples. Hailing from the Granite State, I had probably seen them on Gilligan's Island, or perhaps when travelling to Florida.
I'm not sure, but next year seems like the perfect one to permanently begin spending winters away from 49.2069° N. Maybe at this time next year, we could be planning for a five or six month rental in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. We will be able to check to see how possible the idea is. I'll try to meet up with Debbie at thepropertygirl.com when we get down there for one short week before Christmas.
I could definitely put up with living in self-imposed poverty as long as we're doing so at a longitude equal to Hawaii.
