So today, we had five hours of life in buses and through their windows. It does feel comforting to have returned to this zone. The birds sound familiar and although I might miss searching for peacocks in the grass as we pass, I'll not miss their cat-like screeching. It must be a cruel joke of nature to give a bird such handsome plumage, yet a voice that is downright ugly. I guess it is common that talents are doled out sporadically. The black myna birds are not much to look at except for a tiny splash of yellow eye shadow, yet they can sometimes run through a set of twenty, catchy little tunes. Come to think of it, talents and skills are not equitably dispersed, even among humans!
I'm not sure how long we will stay before heading out again. So many areas of Sri Lanka call out for visiting. Which first? Which direction? I enjoy up-country destinations where temperatures at night might match Vancouver's at this time of year. Of course the southern beaches that are nearly 30C (85F) year-round would be a good choice too. We also want to get back to the east coast on this visit. The only direction we can now count out is the far north. Been there. Done that.
Do we really have only seven weeks of the Sri Lankan portion of this trip remaining? Oh my!
