One positive effect was a slight increase in my sense of freedom. This afternoon I cancelled Internet and satellite TV effective at the end of the month. I didn't manage to rid our apartment of a land-line telephone though. I really don't know why I harbour a desire for one, especially as in order to keep the number active, Telus will be changing us about 50% of a normal bill. I could switch the number over to a cellular provider, but alas I was too lazy.
Now basically, as far as the apartment goes, all we'll need to do is stop the newspaper delivery and turn the key in the lock. Then, a China Eastern flight will soar out of YVR and over the Pacific. With the money saved today, we should be able to buy several weeks in SE Asian hotels, or purchase some very special items in Sri Lanka.
