I dropped off my application last Wednesday and received my new passport in the mail today. Considering there was a Monday holiday in the middle, Passport Canada did a pretty good job. I will have to have another one prepared in 2017 but from next year, I heard newly issued ones will probably be valid for ten years rather than the current five.
I feel a little cheated that I didn't even get a chance to use up the 2007 one which is now invalid. It had six completely empty pages from the 19 which could have contained stamps or visas. Here's what was on each of the pages:

There's only a single departure and exit from Europe nowadays but I hope the next time around, when Canadian passports are valid for a decade, I'll be able to use the whole thing!
