Yet, the new, spacious supermarket opened on Friday. I didn't meander through until Saturday just to scope it out. Then, last night we used Jay's transit pass and bought some milk and bananas there. It is very nice to have the new facilities just one station away. More importantly, it's also less than a 10-minute walk. And ... the inside's gorgeous, if a supermarket can be called as such.
I think the entire shopping complex will be a smashing success as it will serve the growing downtown population as well as those who transit through. The Safeway is the first business to open, but a Subway Restaurant looks ready to open at any time. Come spring, when the 10-screen cinema is unveiled to the public, most of the other shops should be open too. I was really quite impressed today. When we moved here in the 1990's we knew downtown New Westminster had a great potential as a place to live. It's nice to see that the improvements are coming true!
