There's better access to the Fraser River from the other side. We don't often bother to go to Surrey's Brownsville Bar Park which is nestled between the SkyTrain and Patullo Bridges. It'd be a nice enough place for a picnic but it seems silly to have one so close to where we live. We just drove over in the late afternoon. We could see quite a few people from the balcony but we couldn't tell that most were fishing from the shore. We ate at least a handful of ripe blackberries from the perimeter of the area. I just like seeing the bridges from their bases.
After, when coming back, we parked at our own Queen's park for a little while too. We were mostly interested in viewing the harassed animals in the Petting Zoo. All the kids, over a summer weekend, give the farm animals a true workout. We noticed that many goats and chickens were hiding in the animal "safe zone". At least the peacocks are in a large enough enclosure so they're seldom stressed. It seems as though many human residents spent the afternoon using the picnic tables and kiddie water features.
Let's cancel winter this year. I'm not ready to go back into the rainy season here!
