I cannot help but consider how much downtown New West has changed since we arrived. I am sure that 15 years ago, I couldn't have pictured many of the changes which I have witnessed. For example, we first lived in the back of these new towers at the SkyTrain Station. The footprint of this project was simply parking and vacant land. In the rental property for two years, we had a view of the river. Now these buildings must make up the entire view.
When walking up Columbia towards home, I had to pass the entire block where the Civic Center will be built. On the opposite side of the street is a newer 15 storey tower where the Windsor hotel was. Further along, there were zoning notification on the Trapp block telling how the new development will keep the facade but sport a 20-storey tower behind it. It'll partially obstruct my view of the Alex Fraser Bridge but I guess that's the price for a safer, more vibrant downtown core.
I like living in a place where development continues to occur.
