Okay, try and guess which movie we just saw.
It's story-telling. It's hard to remember that the original concept was stolen from a decades-old amusement ride. I probably first stepped into the land of The Pirates of the Caribbean when I was knee high to a grasshopper at Disneyland. So, it's somehow right I just spent 136 minutes watching On Stranger Tides at the age of 51.
The movie industry is smart to be pushing 3D. We had the choice of traditional and Real 3D version and took the latter. Today's version was not overwhelming but worth the extra dough. People have been contemplating the eventual demise of theatres since black and white screens began flickering in people's homes. The public movie houses are still there. The corporations may come and go, but theatres will probably remain in the future too.
The prices are a bit shocking though. We went today as the Empire chain cuts prices on Tuesdays. They knock $5 off tickets so a regular show is $5.99 and a 3D showing costs $8.99. Imagine the bill if a couple and their kid went to see a child-friendly flick at normal prices; the total to see Kung Fu Panda 2 would total nearly 40 bucks. That's without any snacks.
