It's nice to know we've not given up on our own visit-as-you-go type of adventure travel. For most all big trips, we only book a hotel for the first night, so we'll know where to head when the flight gets in. On April 9th, it will be San Jose, Costa Rica. Other than that night and the one before our return trip on the 30th, we will not plan a 'must be somewhere by a particular time appointment' for the entire three weeks.
North Americans, in general, are far too concerned about having arrangements made before departing. That totally sucks the spontaneity out of a vacation. For example, what if we find we like a particular town? If we already had reservations in another place, we'd not have the option to tarry longer. Sometimes making the unconstrained connections are the most remembered moments of a journey.
