I realize how spoilt I've become living in an urban area. Now, I hate it when I have to travel over five miles to find ... anything.
This afternoon we went to Langley. I had called around all afternoon yesterday trying to find an exact replacement for my garbage disposal. The unit I wanted is made by In-sink-erator. I bought one at a local Rona hardware store back in 2004. When calling around nobody seemed to have a Badger 1 model. I suspect it is being phased out but I figured I'd successfully hunt down one still in stock somewhere. I feared having to do more than just loosen the existing connections and bolt in the replacement. Nope, there were only the more powerful and expensive Badger 5 units in Burnaby, Richmond, and Surrey. Oh, wait! There are still two, original units out in Langley at Andrew Sheret Ltd. It'll be worth the drive, I thought.
Well, I followed my phone's navigation to 19558 56th Street out there. As an aside, the Fraiser Highway is a huge pain with dozens and dozens of traffic lights. After eventually getting there, the helpful stock lady seemed to be gone for a long time. She came back and said they were out of it as well. During my earlier call to them, they'd just checked the computer and not the physical stock!
Thankfully, the cashier, Michele, said she'd give me a Badger 5 at the price quoted for the smaller Badger 1. Okay. I was still worried about how dissimilar the housings might be but I bought it. It fit like a charm.
I suppose it was worth driving 45 minutes each way to save $46.
