This is the winter of pile driving. Today, it started at about a quarter to eight in the morning. Hours later, the sun has already set and they're still at it. For us personally, we think it will be well worth the noise. Having a park along the riverfront will be a wonderful addition to New Westminster's downtown.
I still see snide remarks faulting the project in the local rags. To me, it seems as if the ire is mostly a bi-product of political sniping against our major. The area where the work is going on has been a wasteland since we came to this city in 1996. It is prime space once occupied by fish canneries. Downtown is undergoing substantial growth and this public amenity is well-deserved. The site also contained contaminated soils from industrial waste. Getting the area cleaned up is another point that makes the criticism ring a little hollow.
