I did a status update on Facebook earlier this afternoon which read: Saying the final goodbyes to a class is aways bittersweet.
I don't think I've ever typed that word before and, honestly, is appears a little silly. Yet, it does rather adequately reflect one's feeling at the end of the rather grueling classes we have in my program at BCIT. I have been working with a group of students for sixteen hours per week since the end of October. That's a lot of contact. We learn a lot together and about each other. The situation must be akin to living with fellow astronauts on the space station. It sometimes feels like we see each other more than our own family members.
Yet, today it suddenly ended. The class is over. Although it feels very nice to have accomplished so much, it is a little disquieting knowing that the group will never exist again. I think my feelings reflect those of the entire class. We are happy to be finished, but a little sad too.
I taught a very small group at the beginning of the summer. As a parting gift, they gave me an autographed baseball cap.
