Life is more evolution than revolution. I suppose this statement could be used for theories from why I have blue eyes to why I teach English to new immigrants. Today, though I only wanted you to consider this premise as it relates to technology.
Let me take a moment to think of a few examples. Okay, it's not a coincidence that ...
Modern Blu-ray discs are the same size as computer floppies from the 80's.
The aspect ratio of tube televisions was the same as classic movies from the 1940's.
The pedal arrangement in 2011 cars is the same as those used when your grandmother was a child.
We generally take what we have and modify it through improvements.
This process has got to the the case even with this blog. The image above shows a few of the thousands of images I've used here. From the start, I assumed that graphics would be an important part of whatever I wanted to say. This was rather unique for a blog back in 2003. So over time, I've accumulated quite a sizable collection of jpg files on my domain server.
It wasn't until this very year that I stopped publishing to my domain and started hosting the information at blogspot.com. Unfortunately, this means that the bulk of my images still point back to the originals on my domain server. Oh, it works fine. Yet, I wish I could host them all on Flickr as I do when I add any picture file nowadays. If I stopped paying for my domain and Internet host, all these ancient links would fail to function. I can't bear the thought of all these years of blogging going to waste. I think I'll take the necessary hours to transfer them.
Today's image shows a few of over 2000 images still at www.DennisSylvesterHurd.com. I may try slowly moving them over to Flickr. This is obviously evolution!
