I really sort of gave up on radio for many years. As an example I have never even put an FM antenna on my home theatre system. Yet, I listen to a great deal of it nowadays. Of course, I now listen at my own convenience and I'm rather picky about what goes into my ears. Most of my shows are downloaded from NPR, CBC, and the BBC. There are literally hundreds of options. I find I often test out new ones, and drop those which I don't enjoy.
First, I use Google Reader on a computer to locate the radio programs I want to listen to. Then, I have set up Google Listen on my Nexus One. That Android app checks for updated episodes of each program and downloads new ones automatically. I can play them in any order, of course.
