This video clip was taken on September 24th. We had spent the previous night in Trincomalee, Sri Lanka. Jay's two sisters, and auntie were with us on this journey to the eastern side of the island. In fact the details about that day have already been published.
This area had pretty much been off limits during the past few years due to conflict in the region. Now with the war over, local tourists are flocking to favourite sites around the island. Also, Ramadan Eid meant that many Moslems were on break the week we visited and so it was quite crowded.
The seven wells are all of varying temperatures. Just as with many ancient things in Sri Lanka there is a legend that goes with these hot springs. Supposedly, the god Vishnu, was at war with Ravana the Demon King of Ceylon. In order to delay his opponent, he implanted in his mind a delusion that his mother, Kanniyai had died and provided these waters for the ceremonies which had to be performed.
