Near the end of last August, I wrote about Pleo. I thought owning one would be interesting but I never forked over the big bucks for one. Unfortunately, I was not alone in my dithering. Not nearly enough people ran out to buy them, for earlier this spring, Ugobe, its maker, filed for bankruptcy. Current owners love them, from what I can tell on the Net. When the website folded, forums were set up by loyal fans. Then, a few weeks ago came the news that the intellectual property rights we bought by the manufacturer. Jetta, it seems, will begin production again. Okay, but the original was released in 2006. In the gadget business that is a long time. I'm wondering if there is going to be a Pleo 2.My interest in this topic was renewed as I found a new magazine in the BCIT library. Yesterday, I had my class in there doing a one-hour library project. I discovered, Robot Magazine. It contains all sorts of hobbyist machines. How fun!
But really, come on! I grew up seeing the metal contraption that used to say, "Danger, Will Roboson." I thought by 2009, we'd be a little further along than we are now.
